It’s a journey that pushes the limits of the laws of physics and the concept of time. 14 centuries ago on this very night, our Prophet (saw) had a night journey that started from Mecca to Masjid al-Aqsa which would continue with ascension to the sky, travel to the depths of the universe and finally end with meeting with our Lord and Creator. Many people have serious questions in their minds about this miracle. Was such a journey necessary? Can it be possible for a person to do all this? If it is possible, how did so many events happen in just a short time? Was the reduction of prayers from 50 times to 5 times a day Ma’azallah, a bargain? These questions and many more. Inshallah we will be removing all the question marks one by one today. Through the guidance of Allah and His Messenger (saw), are you ready to embark on a journey into the secrets of Miraj and beyond the universe? Let’s begin. We can think of the Miraj like this. Imagine there is a king who is ruling a country. Of course, he's also the commander-in-chief of the country's army. And let's say that, this king gives a certain task to a soldier. But it's not a simple one. This is a task concerning the whole country and its entire military system. So then, what should he do? He should first train that soldier from the lowest military rank. Then, he should guide this soldier through all the departments and show their systems, up to the “General Staff” department. Why? Because his task is about all of them. So, this soldier should observe all types of military operations. What will happen next? The king will call him and assign his duty. In this way, the king will have helped him understand the entire military system better than anyone else. Similarly, Prophet Muhammad’s (saw) duty was not an ordinary one. It concerns all the people from his time until the Day of Judgment because he has brought a light that would illuminate the entire universe. He is the best teacher to humanity. He taught us that nothing is created in vain and that from the tiny grain of sand to the massive galaxies, this creation is not without an artist, coincidental or random. Nothing happens without the Will, Art, and the Control of Allah. He also taught us the Paradise, Hell and many more. That’s why Prophet Muhammad (saw) was given a unique blessing called the Miraj, which helped him explain these and finish the tasks he took over from the earlier prophets until the Day of Judgment. So, if his duty is about the entire universe, then he should visit all of it. Therefore, Allah (swt) showed him the whole universe and brought him to His presence in the end. Then, He gave him some commandments and sent him back to the world to continue his duty. When you look at it, there is no other human being who has been assigned a more important duty. So, the answer to the question "Was such a long journey necessary?" is surely, 'Yes.' We can also think of it like this. Assume that someone wants to tell you about Mars. Would it be more interesting to listen to someone who set foot on Mars or just an ordinary person? The first one, right? That’s what you'd prefer. So, here, our Prophet (saw) personally witnessed almost everything mentioned in the Qur’an. Paradise, Hell, the seven heavens. He saw the Arsh and the Kursiyy of Allah, and many other things in this experience. Even beyond that, he (pbuh) personally met with Allah (swt) representing all of us. Then, he came back and informed us about all of them. At this point, some of you might be saying, "Okay, this journey might be needed, but how likely is such an event to happen with a human body?” We must never forget this. Because Allah is the one who created this universe and established its laws, He can change them for His special servants whenever and however He wants. If you say, "He cannot", you would be attributing weakness to Him, Ma’azallah. So, as proof of his prophethood, Allah granted Prophet Muhammad (saw) such an extraordinary experience. For His Messenger, He changed the laws that He had set in the universe. You can think of this miracle as a signature or a seal from Allah. By looking at this signature, we can be %100 convinced that he was sent by the Creator of the heavens and the earth. In addition to these, we can understand how this can be possible by just looking at how Allah makes a signal from Earth's surface reach a satellite in space. The One who is capable of doing this, can surely make His beloved servant’s body travel through the seven skies and reach Him. After all, when we look at the Prophet’s (saw) life, when we look at all the hardships he had to face, he endured all these difficulties for His Master’s sake with that blessed body. Animal intestines were put on him, stones were thrown at him, but he kept worshiping and conveying His message to people with that same body. And, he continued his cause like this for 23 years. So, also to honor His Messenger, Allah physically brought him to His presence and talked to him. Some of you might say, "But there are many details in the event of Miraj. The Prophet witnesses many many things, talks to many prophets, sees the angels. Wouldn’t it require lots of time to do all this? It is said that after everything happened and the Prophet (saw) came back, his bed was still warm. How is it possible for so many things to happen in such a short time?" There is an excellent example to explain this in the Risale-i Nur Collection. Imagine a huge clock. What do clocks have? They have second, minute and hour hands. But this huge clock has more hands other than these three. I want you to pay attention to this part. Imagine going down to the 10th hand, it becomes smaller and smaller, right? Now, let’s say you took the second hand and I took the smallest hand. When you complete one cycle in 1 minute, I will have completed thousands of cycles, right? So, I could say, "I've completed so many cycles around this clock in one minute." Similarly, since Allah created the concept of time, He can change its flow as He wishes for His Messenger. There is nothing wrong or unreasonable about that. Also, the creation of Allah and the speed that they reach in the universe help us understand this too. For example, He has given light a speed of 300,000 kilometers per second. He has given a heavy object like Earth a speed of 107,000 kilometers per hour. So, it must be very easy for Him to give His servant such unimaginable speed in the depths of time and make him travel through so many realms in such a short period. Since He is infinitely powerful, nothing is impossible for Him. After all these happened, the experience of Miraj came to an end. Then, from there, the worship called “The Miraj of the Believers” was brought to us, and that is Salah, the five daily prayers. When we look at how the 5 prayers were commanded, another question mark about Miraj appears in our minds. According to the narrative of the hadith, at first, the prayers were commanded to be done 50 times a day. On the way down, Musa (as) told Prophet Muhammad (saw) to ask Allah to reduce this number, saying that it would be very heavy for his ummah. He (saw) then went back, and this number was reduced to a certain amount. Then, when Musa (as) saw the Prophet (saw) on his way down again, he advised him to ask Allah to reduce the number further. And this going back and forth happened several times. At last, it was reduced to five times a day. When some people hear this, they ask, "Did Allah (swt) and the Prophet (saw) Ma’zallah make a bargain?" Of course not, there is a totally different situation here. First of all, it’s not a bargain. Since Allah (swt) created everything, He sees the past and the future simultaneously. So, He always knew that in the end there would be five daily prayers and that Musa (as) would talk to our Prophet (saw). Therefore, we can't call it a bargain. So, why did those conversations happen, then? Because Allah wanted us to learn important lessons from them. When we look at the life of the Prophet (saw), we see that Allah highly valued and honored His Messenger (pbuh). His requests were really important to Him. In fact, Allah changed the Qibla from Jerusalem to Kaaba just because the Prophet (saw) looked at the sky. He didn’t even have to ask. It's in Surah al-Baqarah. So why should we be surprised when Allah reduces the daily prayers from fifty to five to please His Messenger? But despite we pray five times a day, we still get the reward of fifty prayers a day. This is what Allah told His Messenger in the Miraj. Look at the mercy and generosity of our Lord (swt)! So, the lesson we should draw from all this, if I want to gain Allah's pleasure, I must follow Prophet Muhammad (saw). If I follow him and his sunnah, I can gain Allah's love. That’s because he is the most beloved servant of Allah, and all the beautiful traits are gathered in him (saw). Surah Ali ‘Imran, Ayah 31 summarizes everything clearly. Let’s listen to it, and let this Ayah leave its mark on our hearts tonight. and Inshallah bring us closer to Allah and Our Messenger. "Say, 'O Prophet, if you really love Allah, then follow me. Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. Allah is Most-Forgiving, Most Merciful.'"
