Solutions You'll Hear First Time! - End Obsessions, Waswasa, Whispers, OCD!

I perform ghusl and go out. and I think, did I wash my belly button or not? Nasty things come to my mind, especially during prayers. Of course, It's not easy for someone who's going through this. It's a situation that makes life miserable and unlivable and leads you, step by step, to stay away from religion. This could be one of the hardest situations of your life that you don't want to experience. Are there brothers and sisters who are experienced in these kind of things? I am sure there are. After hearing some simple instructions, you will learn some plain truths, so you will say: "Brother, these troubles we were talking about are over now.
I got rid of them." Today, we will study the whispers (waswasa) of the devil in four main categories. We will talk about it. There are different types of waswasas. You may have some hardships about it now or you may face waswasa in the future. Before it comes and wastes your life, we should learn how to deal with it right now. The first type of waswasa is the waswasa that comes during the acts of worship. For example when performing ablution (wudhu): "Did I wash my arm?". “Let me see if it's still dry'', there are like fifty questions like these. You perform a ghusl and go out, "Did I wash my belly button or not? What if I didn't perform the ghusl correctly?
I'm done." This is the first kind, the waswasa that distracts you during worship. During the prayer, you think: and you hesitate, just like that. When I first experienced these, I was nervous and didn’t know what to do. I relieved when I heard that there are millions of people who has been experiencing all these. Thousands of scholars wrote solutions about these. So, it's not a desperate situation brother. The second type is The most basic levels, of course, don't count as OCD- for example. "Did I leave the iron on or not? Did I lock the door or not?'' Of course, this can advance to a much greater level; we'll talk about it.
When you have the third type of (waswasa) whisper you think like: “Ugly things come to my mind, especially during prayers; during salah.” When I think of holy things, like Qaaba, prophet (pbuh) dirty things pop up in my mind. These kind of things come to our minds, right? And there is the fourth type of waswasa. "I got tons of questions about faith. Questions about Allah, questions that brings doubts. You are in a continuous struggle with the devil. But brothers, alhamdulillah, we've conducted a good research. It took a long time. We researched Islamic facts about this subject; we sought advice from scholars and consulted psychiatrists.
I'll try to summarise the topic quickly with all the information mentioned above. I am confident.. I don't rely on myself. I rely on the truths inside the Qur'an, I don't remember exactly maybe four, maybe five years ago. An old video about waswasa, that one of our followers who suffered from OCD watched. For 10 years and almost lost his mind. He got better with just one video, with a few instructions. Some of you may think that is that easy? It is hard to get into the castle if the gate is solid. But what if you have the key with you. I bring forth the consensus of Islamic scholars and psychiatrists who have done their research for years. Why can't we solve this? One day someone came.
He had waswasa about the prayers. Ugly things were coming to his mind when performing salah. "What am I gonna do? Is my prayer not accepted?" He couldn't stop it. After a while, we asked him: "Brother, how is it going? Have you solved the problem about waswasa." He said, "I got a solution, brother." "How?" "I quit praying and there is no waswasa" Of course, we will not suggest these kinds of solutions. When whispering waswasa, devil’s aim was this. Let's start with the first type of waswasa? From the waswasa that comes during worship, prayer or wudu... For example: These are the classics of the devil. Think about it.
Everybody is like: "Am I in the third rak'ah or the fourth rak'ah?" Everybody thinks this, right? Isn't this proof enough that a common enemy Satan is playing games with us? Wake up, guys. Wake up. There is such thing as the devil. The devil constantly messes with us like this. The solution is crystal clear, brother. First of all, you must realize that the devil is speaking to you. The second thing is, you have to learn more about fiqh. Let me give you an example. You are praying. "Am I in the third rak'ah or the fourth rak'ah?" You ask yourself. btw, I am conveying the opinions of scholars who are specialists in fiqh. Not me. This is not me.
The scholars of fiqh say that: If this is something you experience once or twice I mean the 3 rak’ah or 4 rak'ah? If this happens frequently, you must look to yourself. For which possibility do you feel more certain? Having prayed 3 or 4 rak'ah? If any of them outweigh the other, you have to act accordingly. So, what if you can't decide on one? Three or four? Then you'll just go with the lesser number, so you'll choose three. Let's say you actually perform less. Your prayer is still valid.
You perform the ghusl, and you get out and say: "Have I washed the back of my ear or not?" You immediately go and make your intention clear: wash wherever you think you missed, for example, back of your ear. You just wash that part and carry on with your day. Don't start ghusl from the very beginning. These are some regulations of the fiqh. These sayings do not belong to me. If these kinds of waswasas keep coming to you like: "Have I washed there or not? I'm not sure." I know that it's hard to apply. You want to wash that part. But don’t. “How about I rewash it just to be sure?” Brother, if you rewash it, you are surrendering to your waswasa. You are feeding your anxiety.
and continue to mess with you. Because it worked. You mustn't wash. Let's say you missed a spot and didn't rewash it. Your ghusl is still valid brother. What is your intention? Do you have bad intentions when you don't wash it? Then there's no problem. Waswasa is a thing that cannot get along with knowledge and information. Ignorance invites waswasa. From now on, you won't have a problem with whether you are in the third rak'ah or the fourth rak'ah. Because you learned it. Even if there's a problem, it will be rare. The devil brought waswasa, but it didn't work. What do you think the devil's gonna do? As he understands that his efforts are in vain, he will not insist on it.
But when you perform the ghusl for two hours, three hours, you don’t only give importance to his efforts but also sin by wasting too much water. This is not how our religion is. You are making things up. You don’t have more knowledge than Imam-ı Azam. Imam Shafii, Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal or Imam Malik. Let me tell you something interesting about wudu. It may help you. Say you are not sure about whether you have wudu or not. You remember making wudu but don't remember breaking it. But you are still not sure. Waswasa comes saying: “What if I broke it but cannot remember it”. In this situation, You dont have to make wudu again.
The rule is this: If the devil tries to give you waswasa, remember this rule and move on. Now it's time we talk about OCD. Guys, this is a serious matter and a difficult topic. There are different kinds of OCD. People who have this, hide it from other people at first. They don't want to tell others they have a disorder. They won't admit it's a disease. And the problem gets bigger. For example, they read a sentence in a book. The devil whispers inside. “Read it again.” They read it again, and again, and again ... They read it 20 times. The more they pay attention to that voice, the more they fall apart. The devil tries to make life unlivable, leading to suicide or rebellion against Allah.
Are you familiar with OCD about cleaning? Have you seen people wash their hands with soap 20 times? First, the faucet, then the hand, and then the same thing over and over again. Their hands are clean. They don't wash their hands; They try to wash their anxiety away. by repeating this action. They are like pouring gasoline into the fire without knowing it. There is repeating your actions, as I just said. There is a type of OCD that shows itself with checking things, like "Have I locked the door? Lets double check it. Then Trible check it! What if I have forgotten the iron plugged in? I'm going to check it; I don’t feel comfortable.." There is also the obsession with counting.
Counting the passing cars, ... One, two, three, ... Obsession with being organized, symmetry. In one of our videos, the strings of the hoodie of a speaker hang down, and they are uneven. You should check the comments: "I can't watch you, you should make them even, etc." Everything must be symmetrical. Well, brother, if you care about that ... If you say: "Let me fix it so that I can feel better", You are feeding the anxiety. You are feeding the fire with gasoline. What should you do? Leave it. There's no problem. "Should I wash my hands again? My hand is dirty." Don't wash it. It's the same in the OCD and the same in other waswasas. I know that it wont be easy not to rewash it.
You are going to struggle with it. But you will get used to not washing in a few days. You shouldn’t listen to what the devil says. You will have to push yourself for a while, and inshallah these troubles will be solved after some time. You know there is pain after surgeries, but that pain is a sign of healing. Those troubles you endure are a sign that the waswasa is weakening. You'll see when you talk to the psychiatrists. They will prescribe you a lot of drugs, they prescribe it because of the sedative effects of the drugs. I'm not saying it's no use, but those drugs alone aren't the cure. There's a thief in the house, and the alarm is ringing.
Your solution is to silence the alarm, but the thief continues to roam freely in the house, brother. The drugs only suppress the symptoms; you numb yourself. The effects of the drugs pass, but the disease persists. So, this is not an exact solution. This kind of teaching and knowledge is needed. So, what is the treatment for OCD patients? Remember that the devil is talking to you; Because your heart is not pleased with that whispers. So its not yours. “The devil is talking right now, and I'm not gonna listen; I'm not gonna care.“ Sounds simple, right? I watched a video of a famous psychiatrist. He described this one-sentence issue in a long-winded way. This is the summary. Move on, brother.
Say to devil that: I don't have time for these stupid things. Sometimes OCD patients come with some conspiracy theories. He tries to take precautions for situations like: "What if this elevator falls, this ship sinks, this ship sinks, this plane falls, or there is a gas explosion? I should better stay away." He gets scared. His heart starts to beat faster. He makes a big deal out of it. He starts to put restrictions on his own life, even though the possibility he's talking about is not possibility to fear from. It's just one possibility out of millions of possibilities. When you start making up these scenarios, the only thing you must do is "Leave it!" Think about something else.
If you can apply these and continue with your life, everything will be fine in time. There are countless of experiences like this. Apart from this, know that everything is under Allah's control. Do you know when the devil's power and control on us increases? "It increases when we sin." In the Surah Al-Shuara verses from 221 to 223, Allah commands: So commit fewer sins or, better, stop committing them. Start repenting so that the hole the devil opened may shrink or close, and his power over you lessens. The third and fourth types of waswasa... Guys, we're about to do something very interesting.
I'm going to show you a method- "ugly things come to my mind while praying." I have some friends who lived a sinful life in the past, they experienced this kind of waswasa. This can happen when you are overwhelmed with your emotions. As Ustad Bediuzzaman said in "A risale on Waswasa": What does this mean? So, when I say black to you, you might think of white. When I say East, you may think of West. Do you get what I mean? Since there is such a thing as connotation, when you are in the most blessed environment for example you are in kaaba, you're praying something that has nothing to do with that environment may pop up in your mind. This is quite normal in the realm of imagination.
We're going to test something, guys. We'll be quiet for 10 seconds. and I just want you to not to think anything. You are not going to think anything for 10 seconds. Okay? Three, two, one. Go. Could you do it? Do you want to know what the best among us did? "He thought of not thinking anything." I mean: " You can't stop imagining." Even when you sleep, you dream. Imagination doesn't stop. You are not able to stop even if you want to. So, how do we get rid of then? It was about 4 years ago. There was an atheist guy in a lecture with us. I talked about waswasa, and this guy started to believe after the lecture. He became a Muslim.
"What's that about?" in one risalah, Bediuzzaman Said Nursi says he says. If a thought like: "Allah doesn't exist" crosses your mind, will you be responsible for this statement? No. You can stop thinking. You don’t have the full control of what you think. And it has nothing to do with your will. If you say those bad words physically with your tongue by believing in them may Allah forbid, then it will make you responsible. You are not responsible for the thoughts that cross your mind. We had that lecture, and the guy started to believe, do you know why? He thought that those theological problems crossing his mind were his own words. He said to himself, "OK, I became an atheist.
Look at what I think about the Prophet (saw)." You understand, brother? What is the proof that this is not my word, this is from Satan? The proof is So, someone else is talking, which makes you uncomfortable. The second proof is even though you want to stop it, you can't. You wouldn't speak or continue to talk if those were your words. So, it's not a matter of your own will. Then the solution is if those are the devil's words, if those are not my words, then whatever he makes me think, I am not responsible for that. Those are not my words. This is our solution for this type of waswasa. In a book of Bediuzzaman, there is a principle it goes as this: or evidence is no importance.
Do you know the Black Sea? If I say to you that, all the water of the Black Sea has disappeared, it's all gone. you'll ignore this statement. Right? Why? Why don't you believe? Because there's no evidence. But is this a possibility? Yeah, it's a possibility. The Sun won't rise tomorrow. Is this a possibility? It's a possibility. But we don't care. You don't care? Because I can't show you any evidence. There's nothing from astronomy. There's nothing from the news channel. So what crosses your mind? You will say to the devil that No. Then stop talking. There are dozens of pieces of evidence that prove the existence of Allah. The truth of Islam.
Whenever waswasa comes to your mind, You'll say: "I'll look at the evidence; I won't evaluate a case without any evidence." You are fine now. I was fine too. When OCD started to come heavy on me, if I didn't know these lessons, I'd be banging my head against the wall. We always think of ourselves far from negative things. Right? we say, “Not me”. Brother, nothing is certain in this world. Take these prescriptions and put them in your pocket. What was the first type of waswasa? What was the second one? What is the solution for OCD? You won't feed it by repeating it. What was the third type? What did we say? You are not doing it delibrately.
Since you can't stop the images that come to your mind, they are not yours. They are from the devil. If they are from the devil, there is nothing to be afraid of because you are not responsible. When you are aware of this, the problem starts to go away. The fourth type of waswasa was thinking about questions on faith. If it doesn't have a basis in terms of evidence, it doesn't have any value. Does it? No. Sometimes you think like: "Maybe there is no creator as we believe." What will you say to the devil? Do you have any proof that Allah doesn't exist? No, you don't. You will say:”So, Devil, just move on.” because we don't evaluate a case without an evidence.
So we walked through the fourth one. There's a beautiful hadith in Sahih al-Muslim, narrated by Ibn Masud (r.a.): "Companions of Prophet (saw) said to our Prophet (saw): You see, Sahabas were having waswasa too. Same thing, brother; you are not alone. Even the companions had it 1400 years ago, do you get it? And the Prophet (saw) answers. Mashallah. You see, our Prophet (saw) shows something that seems to be negative as actually positive. Do we need to say more? So, let our final words on this matter be this: "Does a thief choose to steal from an empty house?" No. Why? There's nothing to steal inside; he enters a full house. Right?
If you are getting waswasa, brother, the devil has something to get from you. You are not empty. He doesn't want you to enter paradise. You are not empty. You have values. Thats why devil is messing with you. This is something good. What is bad about you having waswasa? Be careful. Your house is surrounded by the thieves. Satan wants to deceive you. If you don't take these precautions, you may go to the afterlife empty-handed, may Allah forbid. So, pray Allah. Ya Rab, grant your blessings and healing to our brothers and sisters who are afflicted with this waswasa disease. Subhanaka la ilma lana illa ma allamtana innka antal alimul hakim.
I got rid of them." Today, we will study the whispers (waswasa) of the devil in four main categories. We will talk about it. There are different types of waswasas.
